Testimonials – Scenic and Family Rafting with River Valley

What we call the Scenic section of the Rangitikei River, that is downstream from River Valley Lodge, often surprises people.

While the rapids do not exceed Grade 2, it is the sheer beauty of the river canyon that is so appealing, even for veteran rafters.

This section is ideal for families, seniors, and people who really just want to enjoy the beauty of an unspoilt river corridor.

Read enough, and just want to get on with it and book your trip?

“Arnie, our guide for the Scenic rafting trip was perfect – nothing was too much trouble and his wide knowledge of the river and local geology all contributed to a wonderful day.”

Hi All,

Thank you for your Email seeking feedback on our visit.

We have nothing but praise for your operation. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome and given an introductory tour by Jennifer. The Farm Style Dinner was excellent and great to be so well organised with place names, table service, etc. We did look with some envy at the 3-course dinners but honestly don’t think we could have managed one – especially the desserts. Next time we will go without Lunch and see if we can.

All staff were very helpful and friendly at all times – great to meet and chat with the two Brian’s prior to Dinner, and with the “slaves” (Michelle) and other staff and guests over breakfast. Service from the bar (Kerry) was five star.

Arnie, our guide for the Scenic rafting trip was perfect – nothing was too much trouble and his wide knowledge of the river and local geology all contributed to a wonderful day. We did enjoy chatting with him about his experiences and the many countries that he has worked in. Special thanks to whoever authorised the trip without the minimum requirement of three persons. And what a picnic lunch we had !!

Time did not permit a two hour horse trek which will have to wait for another visit.

Rafting for the adventurous at heart

It is a great shame that both of us being well into our 70’s precluded us from some of the more adventurous activities – the videos of the white water rafting made us want to be back in our 20’s.

As you are aware we were on an exploratory visit to see if the River Valley Lodge was a suitable place for a group of eight over seventies for a three day two night retreat. We will report our findings to the others and see what their re-action is.

Again, thanks for the experience.

Hi Brian

We really didn’t have any obstacles getting to RV. We knew about it and wanted to be there! Now, if we didn’t have a rental car, I suppose we could have been out of luck. I’m not sure if you have a shuttle service, etc. So, I would say that the biggest obstacle is getting there.

Sometimes when traveling, you get a false sense of what the facilities are like and what is offered. That wasn’t the case at River Valley. I would even venture to say that RV is the opposite. The area is beautiful and the accommodations are lovely. Your ensuited rooms were perfect!

I must admit that even though I loved the Grade 5 section of river, the scenic section is to die for!! It was amazingly beautiful and relaxing! Even the adventure seekers need a break and that scenic section was the “calm”.

Gravity Canyon, the hiking just steps away (er, tramping), the scenery!! Did I experience more than expected, yes and no. Yes, I hadn’t planned on being dropped off a bridge!! No, I always want to do it all!! In all seriousness, It was all wonderful, there are so many options for everyone. You can spend the morning running a crazy river and the afternoon playing Yahtzee by that same river.

I would Absolutely recommend River Valley! River Valley is a place for everyone. No set schedule (unless you have signed up for it), Varying rooms and prices for any budget, good food, and friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Thank you Brian, definitely a gem of a place.
