River Valley Employment Opportunities

Campfire on the Ngaruroro River, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

From time to time, we have full time vacancies in a number of positions.

These include, Guides, Chefs and Bar and Lodge Staff.

If you are interested in working at River Valley, are honest, suitably qualified, friendly and self motivated, send us your CV to put on file.

So what type of person are we after?

Well first of all we are not after just anyone!

We are especially looking for people who want to make River Valley a career choice.

People who can grasp the River Valley vision of Great Staff delivering Great Experiences.

People who are excited by the possibility that Hospitality is all about how you make your guests feel!

People who passionately believe that shaking peoples’ hands, smiling, and looking them in the eye is a genuine means of welcoming them.

To do the above requires giving of yourself! It requires you to be genuine and honest. It does not require you to be special.

If this type of experience in your workplace excites you, then please contact us.

The following vacancies are available:

We do not wish to train non NZ guides.

Staff accommodation is available.

Start in October 2017, with finish dates negotiable (late March to end of April).

Guides need to have a high level of technical skill, but also be self motivated and fun

Marketing Position

This position involves maximising the opportunities that our database and social media community creates. We aim to create genuine two way communication with both past clients and future clients. In short an internet strategy based around Permission Marketing.

The essence of Permission Marketing is not yelling at people trying to get them to buy, rather adding value to their lives by the information we give out, the adventure activities we operate and the food we provide.

This is not a traditional marketing position, and in fact is totally orientated towards the internet. The successful applicant does not need a degree or background in traditional marketing, but some background in graphic design and simple video production would be an advantage.

An ability to tell stories and connect with both past customers and future customers by the written word is absolutely essential. In fact this position might be better entitled “Communications” rather than Marketing.

We are also passionate about communicating through Social Media, so an ability to create communications of value is important here.

Please email Brian if you are interested.

Adventure Consultant/Receptionist

The person who occupies this position has a critical role at River Valley. You are the person who takes the bookings, answers the inquiries, puts special packages together for special people, lets key staff know what is coming up the next day – or that day. You are the person who takes guests payments, who explains where everything is – you are in fact the font of all knowledge.

We have an opening in this role. You must have English as a first language, or be extremely fluent in it, while other languages are a definite advantage. If you think that “Sweet As Bro” is a normal part of the English language to be used by front line staff, don’t bother applying.

In other words you must be a great communicator, both written and oral, as well as someone who can take responsibility and is well organised.

To apply for this demanding, but rewarding position please email Janey your CV and a covering letter telling me why you would be the perfect person to join our closeknit team.

The successful applicant will be required to commence the position Mid-September.

River Valley is isolated in some senses of the word. We are 30 minutes drive from the nearest town, and about 2 hours from the nearest city. If applying for a position with us, please bear in mind that you will not be living close to your present family and friends – you will have to make new ones!

The staff at River Valley are a fun lot and will welcome you into their circle. These are the same people you will most likely live amongst, work with, and play with.

Great Opportunities To Work In A Fun Environment

These are great opportunities to work at a progressive adventure Lodge and enjoy the atmosphere and location that makes River Valley unique.

Often what was intended to be a stop over of a couple of weeks, becomes several months!!

River Valley is committed to being a drug and alcohol free workplace.

“When our son, Andy went to New Zealand he spent about half of his year there working at River Valley. Even 5 years later he continues to rave about the place and the people – and therefore it had to be on our route.”

Thanks Brian, just a little update but I am now the river manager here on the Rouge. I would probably not be there without my experience at River Valley. Take care and keep doing the good work!
