Do You Like Seeing What is Around the Next Bend?

If you are the type of family who wish to cover some river miles, who wants to see what lies around each bend, and still cram in a side hike, then this is the trip for you. A three day adventure holiday not to be missed.

While there will still be plenty of time for everyone in the family to relax around camp, swimming, fishing, or simply reading a book, this trip will also introduce you to some beautiful Rangitikei River Canyons. This trip can also be a fantastic family adventure holiday.

Lord of the Rings Country

You will be forgiven for thinking that some of the canyon on the second days rafting looks like a scene from the Lord of The Rings Trilogy.

That is because with its spectacular cliffs and gorge, it was in fact used as a scene for the Fellowship of the Ring.

See if you can pick the location!

Testimonials & Reviews

“In March this year we took our daughter for a 3 day rafting adventure down the Rangitikei River through the Mokai Canyon for her 10th birthday present.  We were lucky enough to have two guides, Kirk from the US and Ben from the UK, for just the three of us. These two really pulled out all stops to make our time, on the river and off, a wonderful experience. Congratulations to Kirk for honing his vegan cooking skills before our arrival. The River Valley Lodge staff and Kirk on the river did a wonderful and tasty job with meals. The scenery was breath taking, the solitude amazing, and the weather brilliant. We look forward to returning to River Valley for more adventures, the only impediment being the more exciting rafting has a minimum age of 13. Our daughter was asking for grade 3 & 4 rapids within an hour of starting down river!! Thank you again River Valley Team. For this experience we give you a 10 out of 10, no matter what we asked for you were willing to give anything a try.”

“We did a 3 day 2 night trip down the Rangitikei River in Feb. 4 families – 8 adults 8 kids aged between 8 and 12.  It was such a fantastic experience! The guides were just outstanding with our children allowing them (and us!) to adventure and fully experience the river and all its fun whilst always adhering to professionalism and safety.   A great way of connecting and playing together as a team with everyone involved.   As well as the rapids being great fun we had inflatable kayaks, side walks to hidden waterfalls and canyons, bombing spots, water fights and even the raft made into a slippery slide! Campfires and great food in the evening to top it all off. We will definitely be back for more trips. I can’t recommend it enough  DO THIS TRIP!!”

What Do Other People Think About Mokai Canyon Three Day River Trips? Watch This Video:

“Only the melody sings here the melody of a river running over rocks, tugging at the bank, seeking its way. You cannot see far, limited by the canyons contour, but you can see forever.”

After all the planning and preparation for a journey on a wild river, nothing compares to the moment of launch.

The weariness of contouring your life to fit the schedule of work and home are lifted from your shoulders in a moment – replaced by the natural sense of flowing water.

The first dip of the paddle draws on the primal energy of the river. Harsh edges fade; your mind is filled with a softer sensual connection to the companions to whom you have returned the water, creatures, trees, a breeze, the clean wilderness air.

Only the melody sings here the melody of a river running over rocks, tugging at the bank, seeking its way. You cannot see far, limited by the canyons contour, but you can see forever.

The longer you float, the more you see; you become sensitised to the subtleties. Your soul expands.

Existence is defined only by the natural world of a wild river.

In camp, warmed by the fire, filled by a hot meal, you share the night with friends and loved ones.

Darkness settles in the canyon. Only the faint shimmer of starlight reflected on the flowing waters defines the liquid pathway that has brought you here and calls you back, again….and again.
