On your bucket list of things to do while on holiday in New Zealand, there very well may be horse trekking
Your imagination is filled with images of wide open spaces, great scenery, and you atop a magnificent steed…….. Well okay, maybe over doing it a bit, but all the same horse trekking is on that list.
Where to do it?
You are only looking for a couple of hour ride as you are not sure how your bum will hold up, and you are not really sure that you will even like it,and it is after all quite high up sitting on a horse, and you are a bit concerned about falling off, and well horse trekking is the same every where you go isn’t it? Not to mention the money it costs!
What to do?
The solution of course (at least from our point of view), is just get on with it, try something new, book the trek, get the kit on and have a great time on a River Valley Stables Two Hour Horse Trek.
Not so simple?
Okay, so lets look at the Problems
Your bum – this may indeed hurt at the end of a two hour trek if you have done little or no riding. However we will endeavour to fit you to a saddle that best suits you. All saddles were not created equal!
Will you like horse riding? – again we can’t guarantee that, however over 90% of people who do a two hour trek with us, rate it as either a 4 or a 5 out of 5. So chances are you will have a great time.
Will you fall off – possibly but unlikely. We will not get you doing things on the horse that you are not comfortable with. As your confidence increases you will have an opportunity to understand what it feels like to be in control of your horse on the ride.
Fantastic Scenery? – to die for!
The MONEY – River Valley Stables two hour treks are extremely good value with quality horses and riding equipment.
What more can we say?
Two hour treks depart daily at 1.30pm, weather permitting.
Two hour treks are most suitable for people with limited riding experience. If you have more riding experience, you could be better looking at a Half Day or Full Day Trek.
Season – September-June, weather permitting
Minimum Age – 13 Years – (we do make exceptions to this if a younger person has extensive riding experience)

“I did the horse riding on the Saturday and despite being very wary of horses, loved it.”
I thought I would email you to say thanks for a great weekend. I was in Frank Simpson’s party and we had such a good time.
I should have filled in one of your forms requesting how we felt about River Valley etc but I didn’t get around to it.
I did the horse trekking on the Saturday and despite being very wary of horses, loved it. The two young women who took us were great & really inspired confidence in all of us.
I was going to go rafting too but that didn’t happen because of the river level. I’ll have a go next time.
The staff, meals, accommodation, everything, beautiful scenery, were fantastic.
Just wanted to saythank you again for the fantastic ride we had on Sun 14th Feb with Wairua and Rico. Now we are back in the UK, where it is only 4 degrees (!), I can hardly believe I was there!
It was one of the best days of our holiday for me, and I have happy memories of the trek that will stay with me for a long time. Thought that you might like to see a few of the pics that you took.
Hopefully I will be back sometime!
