The River Valley Homestead
Based on an American design, the original building was built in the 1st decade of the 20th century, sometime between 1900 and 1910. In common with many buildings of the time it was constructed with native timber, high ceilings, some ornate fret work, and no insulation.
Since 1910, it appears that each generation has had a go at modifying the original building, normally with materials and designs of their time. Hence, while the majority of the house still looks as if it belongs in the early 20th century, there are certainly parts that have more in common with the 1970s for instance.
Nicola's Grandfather and Grandmother, Colin and Olga Sage, shifted on to the property and into the house in the 1930s. Nicola's parents followed them, and finally Nicola and Brian. It has always been Nicola's dream to create a beautiful home and garden, projects that she does not let Brian easily forget!
Pictures are of the house and gardens in Spring.
