River Valley Lodge - New Zealand's Adventure Lodge
Way back in the mid 1980s, River Valley had been operating as a rafting company for just a handful of years, but already the writing was on the wall.
Could we survive as simply a rafting company?
There we were, (and we still are), in the middle of tourism no mans land. 3 hours drive from Rotorua, 2 from Taupo, 3 1/2 from Wellington, and about 15 hours (not counting the ferry across Cook Strait) from Queenstown.
What a dilemma, and what an opportunity!
The decisions that we took at this time would have far reaching repercussions, not only for us as owners, but also for those people who value special places that are outside the mainstream.
Is everywhere the same?
|
|
Are you one of those people? Do you value getting away from the tourist hubs?
Do you despair that everywhere you go becomes increasingly the same?
Then River Valley Lodge maybe for you, but it is not for everyone.
We are an Adventure Lodge. We highly value getting out on both the river and land, exploring, experiencing, normally by raft or horseback.
On the other hand, if being outside cell phone reception for more than a few minutes is a major issue, or where shopping is a an essential part of your day - then DO NOT COME TO RIVER VALLEY!
River Valley Lodge and Guests, do not fit in the standard boxes
River Valley Lodge does not easily fit into the standard accommodation box, and nor do our guests.
Most will be there because they also wish to experience the land and river of this most beautiful part of New Zealand.
But let's be honest, some are there by mistake! When someone hops out of their vehicle with high heels on, or comes into reception and says - "Is there a Dairy we can walk to?", we think hmmmmmmm. Maybe the large print has not been read, let alone the small print.
This is what the Lodge can promise you - comfy beds for your style of accommodation, great food, a warm welcome and things to do that will extend and delight you.
This is what we are not - an upmarket Lodge Retreat, some sort of Rural Motel or Hotel, a straight old backpackers.
See you at River Valley

A wonderful comfortable and memorable experience
To Brian and all of the lovely staff at River Valley Lodge,
I hope the rest of your Easter Weekend was pleasant.
I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of you for making our stay with you over the Thurs/Fri/Sat of Easter a wonderful comfortable and memorable experience while staying with you.
I had an absolutely fantastic time horse trekking, rafting and relaxing, and River Valley Lodge resting alongside the wildly beautiful Rangitikei River is a fantastic getaway location.
I certainly would not hesitate to recommend this to family and friends.
Thank you so much and I hope to see you all again soon!!
Yours sincerely,
Rosalie

"River Valley Staff
Tony and I and our group would like to compliment the chef and your generosity for the great meal we had on the 6th November. We would also like to thank Brian for coming down and giving us a talk about River Valley.
Most of our group had not heard of River Valley, and were wondering where on earth we were taking them.
They were pleasantly surprised, and I hope that you will get a spin off from the people that enquired for more information at the counter.
The trip for us was extremely successful, and we have had wonderful comments, and have a waiting list for the next tour when we can finalise dates.
We are happy that it went off so well, and we can see it taking off, so we will be back for linch again if you will have us.
Our thanks again to you all."
