Are you a parent who feels a lot of anguish on where to take the family on holiday, and, what to do when they get there.
Not only that, but will the kids have a great time? And for yourself, you as a parent want to feel relaxed, but also able to enjoy the fact that the family is having fun, without feeling a huge load of responsibility.
Not only that, but what about rediscovering the relaxed, fun side of yourself, being able to read a book, splash around in the river, maybe go fishing, or simply throw a frisbee around.

As we are often asked whether River Valley is suitable for families, we thought we would give an overview of just what we offer that could be great for you and your family.
First of all though, a couple of questions that you need to answer for yourself.
1/. Can your children survive without being able to text their friends (no cell phone reception)?
2/. Can the family cope in the evenings without TV?
If the answer to both these questions is yes, then we can help you!

What River Valley activities are suitable for a family?
This depends very much on the age of the children. Our Scenic Fun Rafting trip can take children as young as 5 years old, and our pony rides are a short horse riding experience for any child.
The other family adventures worth considering are Overnight River Trips - either The Long Way or The Short Way. These overnight campouts have been purposefully designed with families in mind.
The Short Way is suitable for children as young as 8 years old, while The Long Way is more suitable for children 11 years and older.
In addition to these major activities, River Valley can be a great place to explore, with a number of walks, petanque court, pitch n' putt golf course, and during the summer, great swimming in the river.
The balance of our activities have a minimum age of 13 years, though allowances are made with horse back riding for those children who ride regularly at home.
A Breif Description of Family Friendly Adventures
- Scenic Fun Rafting - Families love rafting the Scenic section of the Rangitikei River, downstream from River Valley Lodge. They wanted a trip that was safe, scenic, interesting, and FUN! Your family could experience this day out on the river also.
Family Holiday Accommodation Options
The options again vary. However we have a choice of two options that would suit most families.
These are:
Use the Family Room - a large ensuited room with a King Size double bed and two sets of bunks
OR
Book an ensuited guest room for Mum and Dad, and put the children into one of the bunk rooms - each bunkroom sleeps a maximum of 6.
Length of Stay
If your family is composed of children 13 years or over, then they can be entertained at River Valley for a number of days - we would suggest at least three - one day on the river, one day on horses, and one day just enjoying hanging out at the river, swimming and exploring.
