Passion is Everything
The one comment I hear from satisfied guests at River Valley more often than any other, is how good/great/fantastic/wonderful the staff were.
Of course, some of the River Guides are not averse to prompting their crews to comment about how wonderful their guide was. However, even bearing this in mind, why do River Valley staff seem to enjoy a somewhat better than average rapport with their customers?
What is the Key Element?
To my mind, the key element that River Valley Staff have in common is passion. They have a passion for what they do, and where they work – it is not just a job. Having this level of dedicated staff did not happen overnight, in fact I believe it has been brought about by a conscious employment policy. We are now in the enviable position of having very few vacancies, as most of the people who work seasonal at River Valley, be that Winter or Summer, come back every year.
The Employment Policy
Our employment policy is simple. We don't care where you come from, what qualifications you have, what Polytech course you have done or not done, what nationality you are (though NZ Immigration regrettably do care). In fact more life experience and less classroom experience is a definite bonus. What we care about firstly and most importantly is that you are passionate about working in this industry – that is the people industry – and that you are passionate about River Valley. Everything else is in the detail.
You Got The Passion?
If you were ever considering applying for a position at River Valley you got to have the passion. Don't bother if you are just after a job.
